Redding, California, Awarded Grant to Recycle Foam Polystyrene

The Woodlands, Texas – November 1, 2016 – The Foam Recycling Coalition ("FRC") – a group of plastics industry suppliers, converters and companies who use foodservice packaging – continues to see results from its grant program. AmSty is an underwriter of the program which seeks to fund infrastructure improvements for polystyrene foam recycling. The latest success story comes from grant recipients in Redding, California. The Woodlands, Texas – January 31, 2017 – AmSty announced that it will extend a regularly scheduled turnaround of a styrene unit at its St. James, LA, facility through mid-March to complete repairs on critical equipment.

AmSty Receives Second CSX Chemical Safety Excellence Award

The Woodlands, Texas – June 6, 2016 – Railroad transportation services company CSX has awarded AmSty a Chemical Safety Excellence award for the second year in a row, recognizing the company for its commitment to safe transportation of hazardous chemicals by rail. AmSty became eligible for the award by shipping more than 600 carloads of chemicals during the 2015 calendar year without a chemical release due to controllable factors.

AmSty Announces Completion of Deep Water Dock Project at St. James Styrene Facility

The Woodlands, Texas – October 30, 2015 – AmSty announced the completion of its deep water dock, built at its styrene production facility at St. James, Louisiana, located on the Mississippi River. After two years of planning and construction, the dock was finished in early October and is now operational.

Montgomery County Recycling Facility Hosts Free Recycle Day

The Woodlands, Texas – September 10, 2015 – Montgomery County, Texas, Precinct 3 Recycling Center is hosting “Free Recycle Day” on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at its location on 1122 Pruitt Road in The Woodlands, Texas. Residents of Montgomery County can drop off household chemical waste, paint, tires, electronics, yard waste, and other materials, for free from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Certain non-recyclable waste items will still incur regular disposal fees.

Polystyrene Foam Recycling Grant Recipients Awarded

The Woodlands, Texas – August 21, 2015 – Nearly $100,000 has been awarded to grant recipients this year through a partnership between AmSty and The Foam Recycling Coalition (“FRC”). The Foam Recycling Grant program, which is partially underwritten by AmSty and led by the FRC, is intended to fund infrastructure improvements for polystyrene foam recycling. The grant specifically targeted facilities that handle products considered difficult to recycle, such as foam cups, clamshells, meat trays, and egg cartons.

Ohio Chemistry Technology Council Recognizes AmSty for Exceptional Safety and Environmental Performance

The Woodlands, Texas – June 3, 2015 – The Ohio Chemistry Technology Council (OCTC) has recognized AmSty's Hanging Rock plant for excellent performance in environmental, health, safety and security at the organization’s annual Awards for Excellence ceremony. The OCTC is the state’s most influential supporter of Ohio’s chemical industry, which is one of the largest chemical manufacturing states in the U.S.

According to the Council’s website, “The Awards for Excellence are presented to companies that have shown commitment to the protection of people and the environment, safety at its facilities and effective communications with the public...”

AmSty Receives OSHA Awards for Safety Excellence

The Woodlands, Texas – May 20, 2015 – The AmSty St. James Styrene Monomer Plant has earned two awards from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The plant received the Region VI Regional Administrator’s Award and the Star of Excellence Award in recognition for its outstanding safety performance in 2014. This is the second consecutive year that the St. James plant has received the Region VI Regional Administrator’s Award. The facility has been designated as a "Star" site, the highest honor in OSHA's Voluntary Protection Programs, since 1997.
